Toshiba K01 Windows PocketPc Phone

Toshiba introduced two phones at the MWC 2010 in Barcelona and of the two we have already seen the TG02. Here?s another one name K01 which takes multimedia as its first priority.

Actually Toshiba is keeping the K01 as a complementary phone to the TG01 with a QWERTY keyboard added to it, even on the 12.9 mm thickness. The specs are somewhat similar to the TG02 like 4.1? monster display enabled with capacitive multi touch.

It also comes with a speedy 1GHz Snapdragon Processor by Qualcomm and will run on Windows Phone 6.5. You can see the shift, delete and enter keys as rough in the initial model demonstrated to you but it is not final so you can hope for a better one, and believe me the layout is great even now.

If you have a good look at the Phone you will see three cute, soft keys below the huge screen which indicates it might come with an upgrade option to the Windows Phone 7 Series when the OS is out of the box.
Here also like the TG02 we are not sure about the price or release dates but we do understand that Toshiba is hard at work to be in the frontline of Mobile leaders and their efforts were truly seen at the MWC in Barcelona.

Windows Mobile 6.5 ROM Upgrade for Diamond 2

With Windows Phone 7 Series got unveiled at the MWC, everyone was in doubt about the future of older versions of Windows Mobile phones. Cool down guys, actually WM6.x versions are getting rebranded to Windows Phone Classic and some interesting updates are also coming to the older versions and one of such is the Windows Mobile 6.5 ROM upgrade for HTC Diamond 2.

Unlike Desktop operating system where you get the updates delivered to you automatically, when it comes to Windows Mobile, Microsoft has decided to leave this to carriers. It is very hard to find HTC providing ROM upgrades to older customers as they always focus on making them buy new PocketPC phones if they want to enjoy new features but now a Windows Mobile 6.5 ROM upgrade for the for HTC Diamond 2 is impressive.

The new ROM version is 2.17.707.1 and you should be aware of the current version on your Diamond 2.

Before the installation you should cross check the two versions ? one in your phone and the newer one ? and if both are same you need not re-install the new one if that is working normally. To check the current version on your PocketPC click Start – Settings – System tab – Device Information – Version tab, and note the ROM version, CPU, and Radio version.

Before the installation some points are to be kept in mind about the new ROM update and note that this upgrade will erase any data stored on the device. Once you proceed with the upgrade, the system cannot be downgraded again.

Windows Phone 7 Series Phone from Toshiba

Initially, when we first reported about Toshiba’ new upcoming PocketPC phone, the successor to TG01, it was announced with Windows Mobile 6.5 and we speculated it to be upgradable to the new Windows Phone Series but no, they follow HTC.

Just like HTC, instead of proving upgrades to newer Windows Phone versions to their older customers, they focus on limiting them to the newer phones they manufacture and to force people to buy them. Companies like Apple don’t try this cheap model as they release their latest version even to the oldest 2G iPhones they first made.

Coming back to Tosh, even before releasing the TG02 (figured above), they have announced TG03 which will be powered by the new Windows Phone 7 Series.

Actually TG02 is just like a slightly better TG01 with capacitive multi-touch screen and Windows Mobile 6.5 and last week Microsoft themselves made it clear that none of the present devices with Windows Mobile 6.x versions will get an upgrade to the new OS and that made everyone a bit disappointed.

So when TG03 will be released with a much better Windows Phone 7 Series, who will go for the TG02 on plain 6.5? I won’t unless it is offered for free. Lets wait and see what Tosh plans out at the end.
